Partners in Science Connecticut Pre-Engineering Program’s CPEP DayDate: Mid May Founded nearly 20 years ago, CPEP, the Connecticut Pre-Engineering Program, is dedicated to providing programs that encourage young students to pursue careers in the fields of mathematics, science, engineering and technology. A program partner of the Connecticut Science Center, CPEP encourages underrepresented minority and women students who have the potential for college at the upper elementary through the middle/junior high and high school levels to enter and graduate from quality institutions of higher education. Providing the support system necessary to motivate students to perform well in a pre-college program, CPEP furnishes students with a strong foundation in mathematics, sciences and English to pursue math, science or engineering based fields. More than 600 students from across the state participated in the 18th Annual CPEP Day held at the University of New Haven in 2005. Students tested their skills in bridge building, boat building, racing solar cars, as well as, mag-lev competitions, an egg drop contest, a roller coaster building contest, and a number of spontaneous events such as chess competitions, math competitions and other academic challenges. Trophies were awarded to 218 students from 32 different schools. For more information on CPEP please visit http://www.cpep.org/ or call 860-769-5283 ext. 14
