Partners in Science CPTV Family Science Expo
Saturday, April 27: Open to the public Location: CT Expo Center, Hartford CPTV's Family Science Expo, a program partner the Connecticut Science Center, is an annual event that parents, teachers and children look forward to each year. This innovative program encourages the understanding of science applications in our everyday lives and how science affects the future. The Expo consists of an Exhibit Hall with 35-40 booths of hands-on science activities, demonstrations, products and information, as well as a Science Theatre featuring dramatic, live science-oriented entertainment on stage. CPTV's Family Science Expo offers children in kindergarten through eighth grade an experience that sparks enthusiasm for the sciences. Through the Expo, children discover that science does not have to be intimidating, difficult or elite. Science, indeed, is for everybody and is found everywhere, and careers in science-related fields abound. Parents, teachers, and adults attending the Expo are encouraged to become advocates for science education both in school and at home and are shown ways to foster children's natural curiosity and excitement for learning. And children learn that science is just plain fun! In the fourteen years since the Expo began, the annual attendance has grown, now reaching 14,000 over the four day event. Much of this results from families who come back year after year or who hear of the event by word of mouth as excited students, teachers and parents share their experiences. This year the Expo will be held on Thursday through Sunday, with the two weekdays reserved for school and youth groups, and the weekend days open to the general public so that families can share the fun of learning together.
