Dinosaur State Park

Dinosaur State Park is the site of a discovery of 2,000 early Jurassic dinosaur footprints. These footprints have the species name Eubrontes and were made by a carnivorous dinosaur, probably a Dilophosaurus. The park is located at 400 West Street in Rocky Hill. The park is unique in that it offers visitors both a museum experience and an opportunity to enjoy beautiful grounds and outdoor facilities at one location. The Park’s museum encloses 500 of the footprints inside a geodesic dome, along with accompanying exhibits. The museum includes a 100-seat theater where dinosaur films are shown throughout the day on weekends and during the summer and school vacations. There is also a bookshop and a classroom where interpretive programs are given. The classroom has exhibits on Connecticut geology and a small animal collection. Outdoors features 2 ½ miles of graveled trails, a picnic area, an arboretum of evolution, gardens and a track casting area.

The Park provides guided tours throughout the school year for grades 1 and up. Dinosaur State Park is a CEU provider and sponsors educational workshops for teachers. Special programs are featured during school vacation weeks that include live animal shows, crafts and nature walks.
