KidSpace

Forces of nature. Adventure-filled. Balls of energy. It's hard to tell if we're describing our gallery for kids age 3 - 6, or the kids themselves. That's the beauty of this whimsical space that features “I Spy” author Walter Wick's search-and-find activities; swirling, whooshing and cascading water play areas, plus a hands-on magnetic ball wall. Actually, it's all hands-on to invite experimentation, discovery and interaction.”

Water Play

Roll up your sleeves and prepare to get a little wet. Water play is an excellent activity to help young children experience forces found in nature. Working alone and in teams they'll play with floating blocks, gushing fountains, water jets and more as they begin to exercise their powers of scientific investigation. Just don't tell them that's what they're doing – it'll spoil all the fun.

Magnetic Ball Wall

Chain reactions and the transfer of kinetic energy between objects don't seem like concepts for pre-schoolers and kindergarteners. But when young children are let loose to play with our colorful magnetic ball wall, you not only see joy on their faces, you see dawning comprehension in their eyes.

Reading Nook

Working in collaboration with the Hartford Public Library, the Connecticut Science Center presents the best in science-oriented titles geared toward our youngest visitors. Children and adults can curl up together in this quiet corner of the gallery and read books full of adventure and new worlds of discovery.
