Planet Earth

Overview

There's one thing you can bank on about the Earth. It's always changing. Some times it's in small, everyday ways, like with our weather. And sometimes it's in huge, epic ways like when tectonic plates shift, causing earthquakes and tsunamis. Yet, in the middle of all this change there are people who try to predict what the future holds for us. In this exhibit, you get to step into their shoes and decide what will happen next.

Art Rocks

Professor William Jones, in the Art Department at Eastern Connecticut State University (ECSU), has developed an artistic application to scientifically study changes in the landscape and geological processes. He is joined by Dr. Cynthia Coron in the Earth Sciences Department at Southern Connecticut State University and Dr. James Hyatt in ECSU's Department of Environmental Earth Science. Science Center visitors will receive a demonstration of the application and an overview of Connecticut's unique geology. They'll also get to examine historical data sets to assess weathering, erosion, plate tectonics and human-influenced changes on the land.
