Outreach Programs: Science in Motion
Calling ALL Teachers, PTO Organizations, Community Groups, Scout Programs & Libraries! When you can’t come to us, the CT Science Center will come to you with a variety of exciting hands-on options for your specific needs!
Workshops: K- 9th Grade Schools, Community Groups, Scout Programs & Libraries
(*These workshops address CT Science Standards for that grade, but can be for presented for all grades and groups)
The Science Center offers new unique hands-on workshops for your classroom during school hours for children K-9th grade, for up to 25 participants that will excite and inspire your student’s interest in science. The workshops are a mix of science demonstration and inquiry-based applications that are aligned with the CT Science Frameworks content and skills, and last approximately 45- 60 minutes in length. These programs can be used as a way to get your students prepared for their Discovery Center Program or Science Center visit or to reinforce the learning they have accumulated in their classroom.
Please Note: Workshops require tables & chairs, access to water and/or electricity and 15 minutes for set up and clean up. Discounts available for 2 or more of the same workshop held on the same day. Prices begin at $175.00 + Travel charges.
- *Bubble-Ology (2.1) Captivating, colorful and fun to make, they are also excellent demonstrations of scientific phenomena.
- *Sail away… (K.3)Making and experimenting with your very own Sailboat.
- *What time is it? (1.1) Using the Sun’s path to tell time.
- *Playing with Polymers(2.1) It’s gooey, slippery, sticky, really slimy and kids love it!
- *Mystery Detectives (2.1) Become a States of Matter detective.
- *Let’s Rock! Learn the difference between Rocks & Minerals.
- *Worm World (3.4) Discover the fascinating life of a worm.
- *Water Works (4.3) Find out where your drinking water comes from.
- *It’s Electric (4.4) Electrifying activities to get students charged!
- *Do you Hear what I Hear? (5.1) this workshop is all about good vibrations!
- *I See You (5.1) Looking around corners becomes more fun with periscopes.
- *Feel the Heat (6.3) Relationship between surfaces and heat absorption.
- *Shake, Rattle & Roll( 7.3) Devise your very own earthquake proof building.
- *Push me… Pull me(8.1) Motion is all around us.
- *Feel the Breeze (9.1) Putting wind to work.
Activity Stations: Available March 2010
(For large groups- can accommodate approximately 90- 100 kids/hour)
These station based programs are formatted to accommodate large groups of participants through a variety of hands on science activities.
Topics include: Electricity, Dry Ice, Hovercraft, Polymers, Air Pressure, Bubbles & Ultraviolet Beads.
Prices begin at $165.00/Hour + Travel. Discounts available for 2 or more hours (for same Activity Station). Please Note: Activity Stations require tables, access to water and/or electricity and 15 minutes for set up and clean up. There may be an additional materials fee for some Activity Stations.
Assembly Show: Available January 2010
“The Science of Suds” or the Science behind Bubbles. Captivating, colorful and fun to make, they are also excellent demonstrations of scientific phenomena.
This 45 minute assembly show is designed to get your children and students excited about science in a fun and interactive way!
Available for groups of 25- 250.(Small group discounts apply)
