When: Monday through Friday
Drop off: 8:00AM
Pick up: 3:30 to 4PM
Extended Care: 4PM to 5PM ($15/$10 for non-members/members)
Students can be registered for one of the following 3 groups (groups may change in order accomodate grade distributions):
Please park in the Science Center/Riverfront Garage. Parking is free for the first 20 minutes ONLY for Exploration Camp drop off's and pickups. Please inform parking attendant when leaving.

Day Programs (School Vacation Weeks)
Connecticut Science Center’s Vacation Exploration Camps provide your children with hands-on science enrichment through fun and engaging activities.
Your child can explore a different science activity each day during the week or come just for one day! A fun-filled week includes structured activities with staff scientists and counselors plus, supervised free time to explore the Science Center’s galleries and exhibits.
- $57 per day for Members and Corporate Members
- $60 per day Employees of Businesses in Downtown Hartford
- $63 per day for Non-members
April 14-18, 2014; Register for 1 day or all 5!
Monday, April 14 – Blast Off!
Blast off to the stars in our new Discovery Space Lab. Witness the Big Bang, see how swirling galaxies are formed, and learn how our solar system operates—all in 360 degrees! Come back to Earth and join the present age of space exploration by building and launching your own bottle rocket.
Tuesday, April 15 – Superhero Science
Dive into the world of super powers! Test your strength against Superman’s, learn how to stop gamma rays from turning you into the Incredible Hulk and discover what materials make the best web for Spiderman. Feel free to come dressed as your favorite superhero!
Wednesday, April 16 – Excavation Station
Become an archaeologist for a day! Join our dig site and reveal mysterious artifacts, piece together pottery shards to discover a secret, see strange tools with odd uses, and discover bones that belong to unbelievable dinosaurs.
Thursday, April 17 – Super-Cold Science
Science is not just cool—sometimes it’s FREEZING! Take part in chilly experiments that will make you shiver with excitement. Freeze bubbles, excavate ice balloons, witness a fog explosion with liquid nitrogen, reach subzero temperatures with dry ice and more.
Friday, April 18 – Shocking Science!
Explore the shocking side of science! Power gadgets, connect circuits, light up bulbs OUTSIDE of their sockets and make your hair stand on end! Plus, power your own city with environmentally friendly sources of electricity, like solar panels and wind turbines, just in time for Earth Day.
Week Programs (Summer Vacation)
Connecticut Science Center’s Vacation Exploration Camps provide your children with hands-on science enrichment through fun and engaging activities. Your child can explore a different science activity each week or come just for one week! A fun-filled week includes structured activities with staff scientists and counselors plus, supervised free time to explore the Science Center’s galleries and exhibits. During the week each activity builds on the previous that leads to a final culminating activity at the end of the week.
- $285 per week for Members and Corporate Members ($310 on or after June 21)
- $300 per week Employees of Businesses in Downtown Hartford ($325 on or after June 21)
- $315 per week for Non-members ($340 on or after June 21)

July 21 – July 25: Amusement Park Engineering
Welcome to a world of roller coasters and Ferris Wheels, of arcade games and fantastic water fun! Help us transform the Science Center’s labs into thrilling amusement parks. Design and build rides during an action-packed week and take home your own K’NEX roller coaster kit.
($20 materials fee for K'NEX roller coaster)
July 28 – August 1: It's A Robot World
Robots are everywhere; people use them to help clean the house, assist in medical procedures, and even to aid army pack dogs. Keep up with the times and learn all about robot mechanics. Program real microprocessor robots to do various tasks and build your own robot to take home! Experienced campers can program their robots to complete extreme challenges.
($25 materials fee for the robot)
August 4 – 8: Building From the Ground Up
Get dirty as you design your own landscape. Will it survive nature’s forces of destruction? Work with—not against—nature as raging rivers try to sweep away houses, and earthquakes or hurricanes threaten buildings and bridges. The world is in your hands!
August 11 – 15: The Speed of Science
Science has many speeds! Experience the blazing speed of your own custom-built CO2 car and design a course to see just how slowly you can make a ball roll. Work in teams to create your own Rube Goldberg-style machine—at what speed will yours move? The possibilities are endless!
($15 materials fee for the CO2 car)
August 18 – 22: iSpy
Come to camp in your best disguise! Learn the science behind a secret agent’s gadgets and tricks of the trade. Build time-activated decoys, use your knowledge of chemistry to write secret messages, and set alarms and traps. Discover the latest spy technology, including a remote-controlled flying drone that takes aerial video footage, and build a remote-controlled metal detector to help you find buried secrets!
($20 materials fee for the spy robot)
