The following describes our policy regarding information received from or about you during visits to our Web site, onsite and when we are in the community. Personal information collected online is used only by the Connecticut Science Center. It is NEVER sold or provided to vendors, direct mail concerns, e-mail list services or others. This privacy statement may change at any time. Any changes will be posted to www.CTScienceCenter.org.
Our website will only collect personal information which you knowingly and voluntarily provide, such as when you send us an e-mail, complete a membership form, register for events, place donations or order merchandise. We use this information to process and send orders, bill credit cards and contact you when necessary.
E-mails & Newsletters
The Connecticut Science Center regularly sends e-mail newsletters to registered visitors. Registered visitors may subscribe or unsubscribe to an e-mail newsletter at any time. On occasion, the Science Center may send e-mails to individuals who have provided us their e-mail address, informing them of Science Center events or promotions we think might be of interest to them. E-mail recipients may always opt out of any e-mail category at any time by following the unsubscribe instructions included in the e-mail message.
The Connecticut Science Center Web site uses a technology tool called a "cookie." The cookie is a small text file that our Web site temporarily stores on your hard drive. When you return to our site your Web browser passes the cookie from your computer back to our Web site, so we can recognize you as you move through our site (for instance, the cookie tells our Web site which shopping basket is yours). At no time will the cookie reveal to others your name, e-mail address, street address, telephone number, credit card, or any other personal information (even if you have submitted this information to other areas of our site).
The Connecticut Science Center site may contain links to other Web sites. Please note that when you click on these links, you maybe clicking to the site of another organization. WHILE VISITING THE CONNECTICUT SCIENCE CENTER
To ensure the safety of all visitors and staff, we reserve the right to monitor (via still or moving image capture) all spaces in and around the Connecticut Science Center building.
Ticket purchases using credit card capture are for processing purposes only. At no time will your credit card, billing and limited personal information be collected.
At the Connecticut Science Center you have the opportunity to create your own content and send it to yourself via e-mail. This does not automatically add you to a mailing list, nor do we retain any personal information. Your information stays private, as well as your likeness and/or content, and will not be used for promotional purposes unless there is written consent. In some cases, this content may reside on a third-party server. Any personal information collected thereafter is the domain of the vendor and may be shared with the Science Center for promotional purposes.
The Connecticut Science Center will occasionally go “on the road” and travel throughout Connecticut to promote its mission and programs. At these locations, individuals may opt in to receive periodic notifications from the Science Center. This may be in the form of e-mail, phone or mail. All information remains strictly confidential and is never shared.
THIRD-PARTY SERVICE PROVIDERS
The Connecticut Science Center engages reputable third-party vendors in order to help us manage our Web site, various communications, online orders, onsite sales and for other purposes that allow us to better service our visitors and customers. These may include third-party vendors engaged to analyze, for marketing purposes, the information collected on our Web site. The Science Center requires its vendors by contract to maintain the confidentiality and security of Science Center information to which they are provided access and restricts vendors from using the information in any way not expressly authorized by the Science Center.
AGE-RELATED POLICIES / PRIVACY OF CHILDREN
The Connecticut Science Center follows the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). It is required we inform parents and legal guardians about how we collect, use and disclose personal information from children under thirteen (13) years of age.
Children under age 13 may sign up for our e-mail newsletter and/or mailing list, create on-site content and send it to themselves, become a member or season pass holder and engage in other activities for which the Science Center normally collects personal information. COPPA requires us to obtain the consent of parents and legal guardians in order for children under thirteen (13) years of age to use certain features of our Web site. This applies to the mailing list, e-mail newsletter and other communications. The parent must consent for the child to receive communications. In certain circumstances, (such the purchase of a season pass by a parent for a child) consent in inferred. If the parent refuses and revokes the child's registration, we delete the child's personal information from our database. If we do not hear back from the parent, we assume it is acceptable for the child to receive communications from the Science Center. Once a parent permits a child to register, the child will be able to receive communications and use certain features of the Science Center's online and offline communications without any further notification to the parent.
We do not disclose any child's personal information to third parties, unless disclosure is reasonably necessary to: protect the security or integrity of our Web site; take precautions against liability; respond to judicial process; or, provide information to law enforcement agencies or for an investigation related to public safety, but only to the extent permitted under provisions of law.
