Inquiry Teaching and Learning Workshop Series

Inquiry Teaching and Learning

We offer professional development in inquiry-based learning and teaching by providing a series of week-long immersion workshops, as well as an annual two day follow-up conference. The Introduction to Inquiry Workshop, Classroom Application Workshop, Formative Assessment Workshop and the Annual Follow Up Conference constitute our Inquiry Teaching and Learning workshop series. See our ITL General Information.

Introduction to Inquiry

Summer 2013 Workshops

Annual Two Day Follow Up Conference

The Connecticut Science Center's Inquiry Teaching and Learning workshop series is committed to the philosophy that professional development is a continuous process rather than a one week event. To this end, we have support offerings during the school year and a Two Day Follow Up Workshop at the end of each school year.
Click here to find out more about our additional workshops.

The Two Day Follow Up Conference is an extension of the Introduction to Inquiry week! This workshop is an important part of the process you began in one of our inquiry institutes.

Our overall inquiry professional development program applies the inquiry learning model learned in the Introduction to Inquiry workshop. Using the model of the 3 stages of inquiry learning (below), the Introduction to Inquiry workshop week you attended was the inquiry starter, where you raised questions about using inquiry in your practice (as teacher, administrator or otherwise). At the end of the week you may have developed a plan (a classroom inquiry or set of ideas) to implement or investigate in your practice. This was getting into the second stage; focused investigation.

The Two Day Follow Up Workshop will be your opportunity for Shared Understanding. This means a focus on sharing out your experience with inquiry learning in your practice and an overall synthesis by facilitators.

It’s time for us to get back together to share out our findings!
