Science Safety Workshops

As part of the CT Science Safety Network, we are proud to host a series of science safety workshops for teachers and administrators.

Our Facilitator: Dr. Ken Roy, Director of Environmental Health & Chemical Safety for Glastonbury Public Schools (CT). Dr. Roy has been trained as an authorized OSHA instructor, serves as Chief Safety Compliance Adviser for the National Science Teachers Association, active member of the International Council of Associations for Science Education Safety Committee and is author of ten safety books and over 400 journal safety articles.

Science Safety and Liability for Science Teachers and other Employees like Special Education Teachers/Paraprofessionals in the Science Lab

Under the OSHA Lab Standard, school employees working in science labs are required to receive appropriate safety training. The focus of this workshop is to address that need by providing information on legal safety standards and better professional practices.

Training for Chemical Hygiene Officers + Chemical Management Safety 101 for 7-12 Science Teachers & Supervisors

Learn the responsibilities and liabilities of being the appointed OSHA chemical hygiene officer overseeing science laboratories and employees in your school or district.
In addition, all aspects of chemical management encompassing identification, management, and reduction of risk through all stages of chemical purchasing, storage, distribution, use, and disposal will be addressed. A must for any science teacher, supervisor or chemical hygiene officer working with or overseeing hazardous chemical use in science labs.

Developing and Updating a Chemical Hygiene Plan

Learn how to update or create your school’s OSHA mandated Chemical Hygiene Plan for academic science laboratories. Specific outline of plan components will be addressed.
