Brand-new Traveling Exhibition Blurs the Lines Between Science Fiction and Reality

Hartford, CT (March 18, 2024)-If you thought teleportation, holograms, invisibility, and mind control were only in the movies – think again. The Connecticut Science Center is thrilled to announce the opening of the new traveling exhibition Science Fiction, Science Future. This groundbreaking exhibition bridges the gap between today's science and tomorrow's innovation, inviting visitors of all ages to explore the possibilities of the future through a highly interactive and immersive experience.

“Through Science Fiction, Science Future, we are offering an extraordinary opportunity for our visitors to experience the possibilities of tomorrow,” said Patricia Faulds, Vice President of Visitor Experience at the Connecticut Science Center. “The exhibition is not just a showcase of future technology but a hands-on experience that encourages participation and thought about how these emerging technologies will shape our future. Our hope is that this exhibit inspires the next generation of innovators, scientists, and dreamers.”

In this new exhibition, supported by Liberty Bank, visitors will experience many engaging activities and displays of cutting-edge technology, including holograms, augmented reality, invisibility, robotics, and much more. The exhibit aims to demonstrate that many concepts previously considered purely science fiction are becoming part of our everyday lives.

“At Liberty Bank, a top priority is to generously invest our sponsorship dollars in organizations like the Connecticut Science Center so they can always offer captivating, educational, and one-of-a-kind exhibits that continue to bring families – children, teens, and adults – from across the region to Connecticut’s capital city,” said David W. Glidden, President & CEO of Liberty Bank and Vice Chair of the Science Center’s Board of Trustees. “From exploring the future and giving a glimpse of it, the Connecticut Science Center is truly fulfilling its mission to inspire lifelong learning through interactive and innovative experiences. The Science Fiction, Science Future exhibit is an adventure I encourage everyone to take.”

Science Fiction, Science Future offers a unique blend of science fiction and cutting-edge technology, bringing unimaginable future innovations into the present day for visitors of all ages. Imagine controlling objects with your mind, disappearing from sight, engaging in games with robotic companions, and immersing yourself in augmented reality. All of that becomes reality in Science Fiction, Science Future. Some exhibit highlights include:

  • Invisible Me: Cloaking features heavily in science fiction movies, either as personal invisibility cloaks or a method for making entire spaceships undetectable. Visitors interacting with this exhibit can see how all or part of them can be "cloaked" as they watch themselves disappear on screen.
  • Beam Me Up: Imagine if teleportation could really be the transportation of the future. Enter this exhibit and give your family and friends the illusion of being beamed out and back again.
  • Robot Copycat: Robots are no longer just industrial machines but can now have social applications. Interact with this robot and see it analyze your emotions and mimic them.
  • Projection Ball: Within the center of this exhibition, this giant inflatable sphere features a continuous montage of futuristic images and videos projected onto a unique dome surface.

Science Fiction, Science Future is open to the public Wednesday – Sunday, 10AM-4PM for a limited time through September 2, 2024, and is included with a paid General Admission or Connecticut Science Center Membership. Tickets are available for purchase at CTScienceCenter.org. Science Fiction, Science Future is supported by Liberty Bank.
