World Quantum Day Brings the Future to Families at the Connecticut Science Center

A new exhibit, hands-on demos, and interactions with STEM professionals to spark curiosity and introduce families to tomorrow’s quantum careers in Connecticut. 

HARTFORD, CT (April 11, 2025) – The Connecticut Science Center is hosting its first-ever World Quantum Day celebration on Monday, April 14, inviting families to explore the strange, exciting world of quantum science through hands-on activities, live demonstrations, and face-to-face connections with real STEM professionals. 

The Science Center’s new event supports its growing partnership with QuantumCT, aiding the accelerator's statewide mission to build a future-ready workforce by inspiring young people to consider careers in emerging quantum technologies. With additional support from the Yale Quantum Institute and the University of Connecticut, the World Quantum Day celebration will make big ideas—like superposition and quantum entanglement—accessible, interactive, and fun for all ages. 

“Our mission is to create experiences that help young people explore our changing world through science— and inspire the future workforce,” said Kelsey Rogers, STEM Careers and Events Manager at the Science Center. “World Quantum Day does exactly that by introducing children and families to a rapidly evolving field that’s already transforming medicine, cybersecurity, and beyond.”

Event highlights include: 

• Meet the QuantumCT Team – Discover how Connecticut is becoming a hub for quantum innovation and career pathways.
• Meet Dr. Florian Carle, Yale Quantum Institute – Explore his touring exhibit Quantum Revolution: Made in New Haven, an intersection of science and art.
• Live Demos with UConn Researchers – See quantum concepts in action with real scientists.
• Quantum Chess Lab – Enter the quantum realm with “Sph1r0” and play chess like never before.
• Operation: Block Radiation – Design a shield to protect astronauts in space.
• Spectroscopy Station – Decode glowing gases using a spectrometer.
• Glow Rocks – Watch minerals fluoresce under UV light.
• Wave Wonders – Visualize quantum particle movement on a giant wave model. These family-friendly experiences will expand the Science Center's capacity to connect Connecticut youth to the next frontier of scientific discovery and amplify QuantumCT's message to a young audience.

Also on view: Quantum Revolution: Made in New Haven, a touring exhibit highlighting 25 years of quantum breakthroughs from Connecticut researchers. Featuring devices like Badger, the world’s first superconducting two-qubit processor, and original artwork by YQI’s Artist-in-Residence Martha W. Lewis, the exhibit has traveled from New Haven, CT, to Greensboro, NC, and, most recently, to UNESCO in Paris—and now lands in Hartford just in time for World Quantum Day.
