Conserving the Cottontail
Did you know conservation geneticists are working to restore declining populations of cottontail rabbits right here in New England? This immersive program lets students join their team — analyzing geographic and genetic data to learn how shrinking, isolated populations are losing diversity. They’ll play an interactive survival game, then practice using micro-pipettes, and load real DNA samples into electrophoresis gels. By examining the results, students will evaluate current conservation strategies and make recommendations for protecting this native — and adorable — species.
