Camp In a Box

This summer - take camp home with Camp in a Box. Get hands-on with three weeks (one box) of engaging science activities, interactive sessions with our STEM Educators, and some fun surprises. We are offering two separate three-week boxes that each have their own fun themes and experiments. You can try one box or both for an entire summer filled with excitement!

Camp in a Box:

• One box serves 1-2 campers, ages 6-12. You can purchase add-on materials to serve 1 additional camper for $20 more. Limit of 1 add-on materials pack per paid box. Extra t-shirts can also be added on to any box for $5 each (1 is included with each box).
• 3 weeks (per box) of themed programming sent out to families to participate in.
• Each week will include 2 virtual hands-on workshops programming, a STEM Challenge activity, additional science supplemental activities to do at home on your own, and a Friday share out with your fellow campers at home.
• Running from July 6- August 14.
• Themes include Backyard Science, STEM Spectacular, Super Spy, Hogwarts Muggle Magic, and Space, & Physics Playground.
• Materials (your box) will be picked up from the Connecticut Science Center.

What you get in each box:

• Family-friendly programming
• 3 weeks of hands-on programs with the majority of the materials in the kit
• Each week has a minimum of 7 programs
  • 2 of which are live, hands-on workshops streamed virtually with an educator.
  • 2 different STEM Activity Challenges- 1 for younger learners and one for older learners
  • plus 3-4 additional hands-on activities for families to try at home
• 1 Youth t-shirt, add on an extra t-shirt for $5.00
• A series of mindfulness activities (3 per box) to try at home to support social & emotional development

We will also provide recyclables for families to pick from at the time of pick up, if they need some for the activities.

Main materials needed at home are recyclables, tape, markers/writing implements, paper, and a few small kitchen consumables (oil, water, dish soap)

How does this work?

STEP ONE: Purchase either Box 1 or Box 2 (or both) below.

STEP TWO: After your purchase our camp staff will be in touch with you through email where we will send you a short "camp registration" form and gather some basic information about your camper(s).

STEP THREE: You will be provided with several different pick up days/times to get your box(es) here at the Science Center. Simply pick up your box and get ready for three weeks of FUN!

• Week 1 (July 6 - July 10): Backyard Science

  Things are ‘a-buzz’ as spring comes to an end and we welcome summer! Join us as we discover the science that is all around us in our very own backyard. We will be exploring the sun, planets, solar cooking, bird, bugs, butterflies, and more.

• Week 2 (July 13 - July 17): STEM Spectacular

  Do you love science just as much as us? If you do, join us for a week packed full of spectacular experiments as we play with bubbles, slime, fidget spinners, tie-dye, and more.

• Week 3 (July 20 - July 24): Space Explorations

  As NASA prepares to send a new rover Mars, Come explore space with and discover how rockets work, build your own Mars Rover, explore craters, and more. Get ready for some out of this world experiences!
