Last week on Science Sunday we talked about spooky noises to get ready for Halloween. Today, we are going to talk more about sound by looking at how a speaker works. The concept is really simple and it breaks down to what makes a sound. Sound is simply vibrations that travel through the air, which we then hear. So how does this relate to a speaker? Mark Dixon is a meteorologist on WFSB Channel 3 Eyewitness News and a host of the weekly Science Sunday segments with the Connecticut Science Center. He has been nominated for several Emmy awards for weather anchoring and has won awards from the Connecticut Associated Press Broadcaster’s Association and the American Meteorological society.
