STEM Career Connections is a comprehensive new initiative designed to inspire students to consider futures in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), setting them on a path to impactful careers in today’s economy.

The Connecticut Science Center’s STEM Careers Connections Initiative represents a deepening commitment to the illumination of STEM opportunities and pathways available in Connecticut. We aim to develop thinkers, innovators, and communicators by integrating STEM-related career content into our programs, exhibits, and events.

We seek to spark a strong interest in STEM at an early age, igniting the possibility of a future in a broad range of STEM fields to fuel the workforce of the next generation. We strive to build a diverse workforce, equipped with critical thinking and communication skills and the team-oriented mindset necessary to succeed in STEM careers.

Studies have shown that an early interest in STEM is a reliable indicator of students’ success and pursuit of a career in STEM fields. Time spent engaging in informal STEM learning opportunities out-of-school has been shown to play a role in sparking and maintaining interest throughout the early years of schooling and leading to an interest in STEM degrees.

Connecticut businesses are increasing the number of hires in STEM-oriented careers, particularly in the areas of advanced manufacturing, insurtech, healthcare, and other technologically-oriented fields. These opportunities are likely to grow, and this trend is driven by:

  • innovations and high demand for technology-savvy hires across an increasing number of industries, and
  • projections of even greater need as a significant portion of the current technology-related workforce reach retirement age in upcoming years.

  • Every day, the future workforce of Connecticut comes to the Connecticut Science Center. Our STEM Career Connections Initiative guarantees that they will be inspired, engaged, and ready to work in the companies and industries that have made Connecticut a hub of innovation throughout its history.
