UPCOMING WORKSHOPS

INTRODUCTION TO INQUIRY

  K-12 Educators & Coaches   June 20-24   1,500

Join us for our Introduction to Inquiry Professional Development workshop. This 5-day workshop will immerse participants in active learning experiences to discover how to create and support an inquiry-driven learning environment. Using these common experiences, participants make meaning of the modeled attitudes and strategies to deepen their own understanding of inquiry and explore how to make and support a classroom shift towards inquiry-driven teaching. This is the first of three workshops in the Inquiry Teaching and Learning series.

OPENSCIED CURRICULUM LAUNCH

  K-12 Educators   June 27-30   1,200

This 4-day Professional Learning Workshop series introduces teachers to the Next Generation Science Standards-aligned OpenSciEd Curriculum, its general materials, and grade-specific units. As a result of this professional learning, teachers will understand the supports and routines embedded in OpenSciEd units. They will explore and practice these instructional shifts as we work towards creating an environment for student-sensemaking as part of a coherent learning experience. Teachers will explore the curriculum materials as a whole group and have the opportunity to explore their grade-specific unit in small cohorts to more deeply explore this instructional model and its resources to deepen content knowledge, improve planning, and instruction.

Included are opportunities for teachers to:
  • Watch videos of students engaging with the OpenSciEd units
  • Hear teachers reflect on shifting their instruction with support from the units
  • Engage in the actual lessons of the unit as a student
  • Deepen their understanding of three-dimensional instruction and assessment

PRACTICES OF NGSS

  K-5 & 6-12 Educators & Coaches   August 16-18   900

This 3-day immersive workshop strengthens understanding of the Next Generation Science Standards and it’s Framework. Educators will explore the key aspects of three-dimensional teaching—Disciplinary Core Ideas, Crosscutting Concepts, and the Science and Engineering Practices as an adult learner to experience. This provides a holistic understanding of the NGSS dimensions and their application in the classroom. Adult learners will engage with multiple classroom scenarios to learn how to make these instructional shifts to transform their classroom lessons and gain concrete scientific strategies to better support student learning within the NGSS Framework.
